News: Chris Pannella Shares Emotional New Single ‘Holdin On’

Singer-songwriter Chris Pannella has released his deeply personal new single, ‘Holdin On,’ an emotional tribute to friendship, loss, and the memories that continue to shape us long after someone is gone.

Blending heartfelt lyrics with reflective melodies, the song explores the enduring bond between those we love and the lives they leave behind. For Pannella, ‘Holdin On’ is more than a new release. It is a deeply personal reflection on one of the most painful moments of his life.

The inspiration for the song traces back to October 2021, when Pannella reconnected with one of his closest friends, Thomas, after spending weeks immersed in a demanding new job. The pair met in Colorado, where they spent time talking about life, philosophy, future plans, and the possibilities that lay ahead.

Just days later, on October 13th, Pannella’s birthday, everything changed. After waking up to birthday messages, including one from Thomas wishing him a happy birthday, Pannella expected his friend to arrive so they could celebrate together. When Thomas never appeared, confusion turned into unimaginable grief after Pannella received a devastating phone call informing him that Thomas had suffered a fatal heart attack while at work.

“I couldn’t process it at first,” Pannella recalls. “I reread that message a hundred times, then read it again. I was the last person from our group of friends to see him alive. It sent a shockwave through our community.”

Instead of celebrating with friends, Pannella spent his birthday mourning the loss of someone he describes as one of the most genuine and supportive people he had ever known. Thomas was remembered by those closest to him for his authenticity, kindness, and unwavering encouragement.

“Thomas was one of the biggest supporters of my music,” says Pannella. “At the time, I was still an amateur. I didn’t even sing, even though he always encouraged me to. I ended up waiting until last year to finally start.”

That encouragement would ultimately become part of Pannella’s artistic journey.

“It is a brutal experience to lose somebody who understands you,” Pannella says. “Every October 13th, I think about that day.”

Those emotions became the driving force behind ‘Holdin On,’ a song that speaks to anyone carrying the memory of someone who profoundly changed their life.

“This is a song for the lost,” he explains. “For the people who changed the course of your life. For the friends we’ve lost and the memories that never leave us.”

Although Thomas will never have the opportunity to hear the finished recording, Pannella believes his closest friend would have embraced it wholeheartedly.

“Even though my friend will never listen to it, I know he would have loved it.”

With ‘Holdin On,’ Pannella transforms personal heartbreak into a universal message of remembrance, resilience, and gratitude. The single serves as both a moving tribute to Thomas and a reminder that while people may leave this world, the impact they have on those they love never truly fades.
