News: Kim Gordon Announces Australian Tour

Kim Gordon today announced her upcoming Australian tour, adding a series of new dates to her international itinerary. This July, she will grace stages in Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane, and Melbourne, including performances at the renowned Unsound Adelaide and Open Frame festivals.

The tour will showcase her latest solo album, ‘The Collective,’ released under Matador / Remote Control Records. Coinciding with the album launch, Gordon released a mesmerising video for the lead single ‘Psychedelic Orgasm,’ which she directed alongside musician, filmmaker, and producer Vice Cooler. Set in Los Angeles, the video features rapid cuts and a surreal montage of scenes including dried pumpkins, giant inflatables, and shopping mall escalators, perfectly capturing the song’s disorienting vibe.

‘Psychedelic Orgasm‘ builds on the momentum of her previous singles and their accompanying videos, ‘I’m A Man‘ and ‘BYE BYE,’ both of which feature Coco Gordon Moore.

Recorded in Gordon’s native Los Angeles, ‘The Collective’ follows Gordon’s 2019 full-length debut ‘No Home Record’ and continues her collaboration with producer Justin Raisen (Lil Yachty, John Cale, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Charli XCX, Yves Tumor), with additional production from Anthony Paul Lopez. The album advances their joint world building, with Raisin’s damaged, blown out dub and trap constructions playing the foil to Gordon’s intuitive word collages and hooky mantras, which conjure communication, commercial sublimation and sensory overload.

Kim Gordon, the inimitable bassist of Sonic Youth, carved a path through the heart of the alt-rock landscape with a fierceness that was as palpable as it was defiant. Her presence—a raw, unfiltered articulation of punk ethos and feminist fire—redefined what it meant to be a woman in the largely male-dominated world of rock. With Sonic Youth, Gordon wasn’t just playing bass; she was creating the sonic backbone of a band that would influence countless others with its meld of dissonance and melody.
