British songwriter and composer Michael Waters returns with ‘Requiem For Earth’, a moving new single that shifts his songwriting focus from personal romance to a much wider subject: the planet we all share.
Following the infectious optimism of his previous release ‘La La Love Song’, Waters presents ‘Requiem For Earth’ as a love song to the Earth itself. Blending singer-songwriter warmth with soft rock and adult contemporary influences, the track explores the beauty of the natural world while recognising its growing vulnerability.
Rather than approaching environmental concerns through anger or protest, Waters takes a reflective approach, encouraging listeners to pause and reconnect with the planet’s extraordinary landscapes and fragile ecosystems. The song’s inspiration arrived with unusual immediacy, with both its melody and lyrics coming to the songwriter almost simultaneously and remaining largely unchanged from that first creative moment.
“Requiem For Earth is a very moving love song for a planet in peril” Waters says.
The recording is built around electro-acoustic guitar and understated drums, allowing the strength of the songwriting and the emotion of the lyrics to remain at the centre of the arrangement. Its restrained production mirrors the song’s message, creating a space where reflection and feeling can take prominence.
Waters recognised the significance of the song shortly after writing it, sensing that it captured a moment when many people are becoming increasingly aware of both the Earth’s beauty and its uncertainty. The release further highlights Waters’ growing reputation as a songwriter driven by memorable melodies and emotionally direct storytelling. After making songwriting his main creative focus, he began recording with internationally recognised musicians in New York in late 2025.
His recent work has already gained global attention. ‘A Baby Of My Own’, performed by Kacey Greene, spent ten weeks on the World Indie Music Chart and reached No. 12, while ‘The Boy Who Really Loved You’, performed by Below The Parapet, climbed to No. 4.
