New Zealand music royalty is heading to the Sydney Opera House. Sir Dave Dobbyn will celebrate 50 years in music with a one-night-only performance on Sunday 14 February 2027, marking his first Australian appearance since 2018.
Few musicians have left such an indelible mark on New Zealand’s musical identity. From his early days with Th’ Dudes and DD Smash to a solo career packed with enduring hits, Dobbyn has spent five decades writing songs that have become part of the country’s DNA.
Slice of Heaven, Loyal, Beside You, Whaling and Welcome Home are just a handful of the classics in a catalogue that has soundtracked generations on both sides of the Tasman.
His achievements are formidable. Slice of Heaven spent eight weeks at No. 1 in New Zealand, Loyal regularly tops polls of the nation’s favourite songs, and Dobbyn holds more Silver Scroll Awards than any other songwriter. He was knighted in 2021 for his services to music.
Fresh from sold-out shows across New Zealand, the 69-year-old songwriter is returning to Australia for a career-spanning celebration in one of Sydney’s most spectacular venues.
For Kiwi expats and Australian fans alike, this is a rare opportunity to hear five decades of extraordinary songwriting from one of the Southern Hemisphere’s most beloved musicians.
50 Years of Sir Dave Dobbyn takes place at the Sydney Opera House on Sunday 14 February 2027.
