Indie-rockers Square Dance Caller make a triumphant return with their infectious new single, ‘Somebody Like You.’

The Australian outfit has unleash a vibrant blend of punchy guitars and playful synth lines which intertwine brilliant throughout into a textually diverse rich and genre defying soundscape, blending their indie-rock tendencies with synth-pop elements and virtuoso classic rock licks. The infectiously catchy vocals soar with an effortless charisma giving the track an elegant central hook. Thematically, the track delves into the profound contemplation of encountering someone and pondering how their presence would have shaped various stages of life.

When discussing the single, Brendan, one of the band’s masterminds, shares his insight: “I think we have all had somebody in our lives either romantically, or platonically, who’s a bit older or more mature and who seems so cool and confident. We either lusted after them or wished we had them in our corner teaching us all their moves. That’s what this song is all about.”

Square Dance Caller came to fruition in 2021 and stands as the latest musical endeavor of Melbourne-based multi-instrumentalists, songwriters, and brothers Brendan and Michael Etherington. The band’s moniker pays homage to their late grandfather’s involvement in the role of a square dance caller. Adding depth to their sound, proud Gumbaynggirr man Mat Hooler joins them on keys, while James Manning holds down the bass. Their electrifying four-piece lineup is further enhanced by the regular guest appearances of Melbourne saxophonist Bella McMahon.

Drawing inspiration from acclaimed acts such as Arctic Monkeys, The Clash, and Gorillaz, they carve out their unique musical identity. Their refreshing sound has garnered immense praise from influential tastemakers, propelling them to great success across indie music blogs, college radio stations, and playlists throughout Europe and America.

With an upcoming UK tour on the horizon, Square Dance Caller eagerly anticipates sharing their invigorating new music with both loyal and newfound fans alike.
