Premiere: KAZIMI is aflame with desire on ‘Fever Dream’

In a world where the typical route for an artist includes introductory singles and EPs en route to a debut album, it’s much less common for someone to make an album before stepping into the spotlight, but that’s exactly what New Yorker KAZIMI has done, in spite of herself. “I never sat down to make a record. I don’t think I would have started if I had” she says, instead developing her songs as they came once she’d started making music during the initial 2020 lockdown – and everything eventually fell into place.

She’s already shared the title track from the album, as well as a live performance of ‘Burn’ from 2021 (which we presume is going to be on the record) – these two songs have been all we’ve had to go on from her, until now. There’s an undeniably haunting quality to her new offering ‘Fever Dream’, which explores attraction and desire from a queer perspective, bolstered by soaring harmonies and quietly persistent hooks.

She says of the song: “This is a song about pleasure and craving. About wanting something (someone) so bad that the desire seeps into your every moment, coloring everything you see. That obsession, that need, that want. Bodies seeking bodies.”

We’re premiering ‘Fever Dream’ below ahead of its release tomorrow; more details on River Run in due course, but it’s out this year.
