London rockers The Howlers continue the build-up to their highly anticipated second album Heavy with the release of their latest single, ‘L.A. Morning’, out now.
The track offers another compelling preview of the band’s most ambitious era to date, ahead of the album’s full release on October 9 and a busy run of summer support shows with rock legends Deep Purple and Alice Cooper, followed by an extensive European headline tour.
Bathed in sunshine-soaked nostalgia and cinematic ambition, ‘L.A. Morning’ explores the enduring allure of the American Dream through distinctly British eyes. Balancing themes of escapism, ambition and disillusionment, the track reflects on the myths that shape our aspirations, capturing both the excitement of youthful fantasy and the inevitable confrontation with reality.
What makes the song particularly remarkable is its spontaneous origin. Initially never intended to feature on Heavy, ‘L.A. Morning’ emerged during the band’s final recording session for the album. Written and recorded within a matter of hours, the track was born from instinct rather than intention—a creative lightning strike that ultimately became one of the record’s defining moments.
“As kids we all grew up with the idea of the American Dream, a notion that has been dashed significantly in recent years by world events, but the romanticised idea of Hollywood is something that every child knows and grows up wanting,” explains frontman Adam Young. “L.A. Morning is sort of the realisation of that. It was never meant to end up on the album, but it came together so naturally that we couldn’t ignore it. Those moments are rare and they’re what making music is all about.”
The release arrives during a transformative period for The Howlers. Following significant changes at the end of 2024, Young rebuilt the band as a streamlined two-piece alongside drummer Toby Richards, ushering in a renewed creative focus that has reshaped both their sound and identity.
The evolution follows a breakthrough chapter for the band. Their self-funded debut album, What You’ve Got To Lose To Win It All, earned widespread acclaim across Europe, breaking into the UK Independent Breakers Chart Top 10 while securing multiple chart positions across independent, vinyl and physical sales rankings. The record also attracted support from BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music, Radio X and Absolute Radio, alongside international playlist placements on both Spotify and Apple Music.
That success translated directly onto the road. A sold-out 18-date UK headline tour cemented The Howlers’ reputation as one of Britain’s most exciting live acts, before a European run saw the band sell out shows across eight countries. Along the way, they road-tested much of the material that would eventually form the foundations of Heavy.
While their debut album was rooted in themes of grief and personal loss, Heavy arrives from a markedly different emotional landscape. The record explores the push and pull between desire and consequence, indulgence and reality, embracing the thrill of reckless abandon while acknowledging the clarity that follows when the night finally ends.
For a band whose appeal has always been rooted in authenticity and emotional honesty, Heavy feels like the natural culmination of everything The Howlers have been building towards. With major support slots alongside Deep Purple and Alice Cooper, a new album on the horizon and an extensive headline tour to follow, 2026 is shaping up to be the defining year in the band’s journey so far.
‘L.A. Morning’ is out now on all major streaming platforms, with Heavy following on October 9th.
