London-based artist Alysha is stepping into a darker chapter of her artistry with her latest single, ‘Take It or Leave It’, a brooding fusion of goth, new-wave and electronic influences that explores faith, temptation and personal boundaries through an alternative lens.
Driven by shadowy synths, electronic textures and a distinctly nocturnal atmosphere, the track marks a confident move into Alysha’s new-wave era. It is a sound that embraces darkness without sacrificing the personal and spiritual themes that have long informed her songwriting.
“I co-produced this song with producer Matt Rist,” Alysha explains. “I wanted to write a Goth/Electronic song about my faith which alternative people can also enjoy rather than the usual Gospel, R&B or Country you get with Christianity.”
That unconventional approach sits at the centre of ‘Take It or Leave It’. Instead of placing its exploration of faith within familiar gospel, R&B or contemporary Christian settings, Alysha introduces spirituality into a world of gothic tension and dark electronics. The track also references the number 666, using a traditionally provocative symbol to challenge expectations and invite listeners to look beyond conventional interpretations of faith.
At its heart, though, the song has a deliberately direct premise. “It’s an Alternative genre song talking about God,” says Alysha, neatly capturing the collision of spirituality and alternative culture that defines the track.
The willingness to cross boundaries has become a defining part of Alysha’s artistic identity. A Cuban-Indian musician raised in St John’s Wood, London, she grew up surrounded by a broad spectrum of musical influences, from Joss Stone, Beyoncé and Lauryn Hill to Siouxsie & The Banshees and church gospel. She began writing songs at just 10 years old, eventually developing a style that brings together elements of R&B, alternative pop and darker electronic music.
Her creative journey has also taken her beyond music. After studying at Access Creative College, Alysha moved into fashion, attending Vogue College of Fashion and Istituto Marangoni. Alongside her studies, she began collaborating with producers online before releasing her debut single, ‘David Attenborough’, at 16.
Her 2020 EP Midnight Rendezvous helped establish her as an emerging artist, while a creative rebrand in 2023 opened the door to a more mature and adventurous musical direction. Tracks such as ‘Lord, Help Me’ and ‘Finer Things’ have since helped expand her audience, with ‘Finer Things’ generating more than 2 million Instagram Reel views.
Alysha has also taken her music to the live stage, appearing at Wild Paths and Forwards Festival alongside artists including Greentea Peng, Hak Baker and The Jesus & Mary Chain. With more than 3 million Spotify streams, coverage from ASBO Magazine and Galore, and appearances on the covers of Vogue and Rollacoaster Magazine, her profile continues to grow across both music and fashion.
‘Take It or Leave It’ arrives as another step in that evolution, presenting an artist increasingly willing to challenge expectations rather than settle into an established formula.
