French artist and producer WØLZT has carved a distinct niche with Tapes From The Maze, a mesmerizing three-track instrumental EP that fuses ambient soundscapes, post-rock textures, and cinematic grandeur to create soundscapes which are at once soothing and unsettling.

Self-defining his genre and “hypnagogic rock”, the three new sprawling compositions move between ethereal electronica and elements of prog rock. Each over eleven minutes long, the tracks offer an auditory and emotional journey into the odyssey of WØLZT’s creative mind.

Opening track ‘Noise’ moves from its ambient electronic intro to intricate guitar lines, live drums and bass that swirls between shoegaze and prog. The piece lingers in a meditative space as cinematic synths swirl before fading to a heartbeat-like pulse, encapsulating a sense of both discovery and solitude.

‘Driving Out’ continues the narrative with darker, more urgent tones. Layering brooding synths and cinematic pads, WØLZT constructs a soundscape that feels reminiscent of John Carpenter’s retro-futuristic worlds. The track’s intricate rhythms and pulsating bass lines create an atmosphere of suspense, evoking the feeling of navigating an alien terrain or uncovering hidden truths.

The final piece, ‘Signal’, expands the album’s scope into cosmic realms. Pulsing synths and reverberating bass craft an interstellar journey that feels simultaneously vast and introspective. The track’s epic scale and spiritual energy leave a lasting impression, resonating long after the final notes dissipate.

Tapes From The Maze is an album of profound depth and ambition, showcasing WØLZT’s mastery in creating immersive, extended compositions. Each track invites the listener to slow down and inhabit its meticulously constructed world, offering moments of introspection and connection. The blend of ambient, post-rock, and cinematic influences feels fresh and innovative, showcasing WØLZT’s as a boundary-pushing experimental artist.
