There is a gorgeous pastoral air to the new single ‘Petals’ from Brigitte Bardini, which we are proud to premiere today. It’s been three years since Bardini released her magnificent debut ‘Stellar Lights’ (see my review here) and a new album, ‘Blue Tigers’ is on the way later this year.

‘Petals’ is an atmospheric track that twists and turns like contrails in the sky. The strings that thread their way throughout have an almost ominous air, prowling and animated as Bardini sings of unrequited love and uncertainty, imbued with a sense of anxiety – he loves me he loves me not. Repetition and a circular movement in the instrumentation serves to create a hypnotic air as Bardini’s velvet vocals simmer and sparkle with a burning restraint on the verge of exploding.

It’s a beautiful mesmerising track that is haunting and immersive: delicate and nuanced. The accompanying video has a David Lynch mixed with Nicolas Winding Refn or Michael Mann feel – late night wanderings lit by neon lights and blurred vision as Bardini appears isolated and distant, an alien in the strange landscapes:

‘Petals’ is out through Ruby Valley Records on Friday, 22 March 2024 and will be available to download and stream here.
