Minneapolis indie five piece Kazyak are preparing for their new album Odyssey, which is released on August 16th, and from it we are delighted to premiere the track Contravertical here on Backseat Mafia.
Of the track, singer/guitarist Peter Frey told us “‘Contravertical’ explores the unknown parts of the universe and the idea that we’re all part of one large chain reaction. The lyrics cite the Mariana Trench and the far reaches of outer space, and the track leverages tape audio from Joseph Campbell’s A Power of Myth.”
Those audio samples alongside Frey’s trippy vocal play into the tracks psychedelic tendencies (Frey says the album as a whole is “more rugged, forward-looking and psychedelic than our past releases “, and its this warm wash of guitar and synths that sweep over the track, bleeding gently into one another that really makes it something special.
