Fife singer-songwriter Mike Clerk, formerly lead singer of The Lost Generation, has returned to music in 2020, buoyed by both a hugely successful kickstarter campaign and also the reaction to his single ‘Thought Of Fools’. We’re absolutely delighted to premiere the lifelong martial arts fan‘s (and practising martial artist) new video for his latest single Keep Movin’ right here on Backseat Mafia.
The track itself features slabs of indie/alt-rock, with these wiry guitar lines and emotive piano hooks playing over the changes. Over the top Clerk lays down this heartfelt vocal, showing he’s lost none of his ability to write classic pop hooks.
Its the video that really sparkles, with Clerk starring alongside Edinburgh-based martial arts instructor Alan Borthwick in a deadly game of cat and mouse in the forest. As Mike told us: “The video’s inspiration came predominantly from my martial arts background, where you pretty much realise in most instances, your biggest fight is only with yourself. The song is written about determination to move forward against the odds, and tieng this in with a masked character managed to fit with all the pandemic issues going on at the time of filming.
I’m really happy with the way it turned out, the people involved worked their asses off to make sure it was prepped properly and we were able to film safley (i’ll use that word quite loosely) and on a small budget in a single day.
As far as next year goes I think the whole world have their fingers crossed that we can finally get out and about – so I’ll be putting my third single out, as well as the full Album “The Space Between My Ears” out early next year, and start getting my head into getting some live shows organised once the timings are right.”
Brilliant song, and incredible video. Check it out, here
