Premiere: Shadow Show push back against the trap of nostalgia on ‘Aunt Maizy’, new album out next month

Detroit trio Shadow Show came out swinging in 2020 with their debut album Silhouettes, making their mark before the pandemic and breaking out the following year, introducing the world to their 60s-inspired power trio setup and knack with a hook – and their forthcoming new record makes that album look like a warmup in comparison; it’s a serious step up, and the best part is we don’t have long at all to wait for the full thing.

Fantasy Now! arrives as soon as next month, trailed by December’s ‘Mystic Spiral’ and second single ‘Aunt Maizy’, the latter of which we’re premiering below. The psychedelic pop nugget warns that ‘if you are blinded by the past, you cannot be enlightened by the future’, and that’s a statement backed up by the trio’s desire to mould their music into its own thing, freed from the trappings of nostalgia.

Get acquainted with ‘Aunt Maizy’ ahead of its release tomorrow and stand by for Fantasy Now!, arriving on Friday February 16th on Bristol’s Stolen Body Records. The band are over here in April with several venues still TBA:

8th – The Lanes, Bristol
9th – TBA, Brighton
10th – TBA, London
