Aaron Louis has done a lot in the worlds of film, theatre and fiction, and has enough on his plate that he didn’t necessarily need to start a band on top of it. The New Yorker’s a former member of Dandelion Wine, too; stepping back into the music world as part of The Clamor was never part of the plan, but he’s back in for the hell of it.
On the inspiration behind the collective’s 8-song debut record, Louis is typically candid: “I had a pretty wrecked childhood and the only thing that kept me sane was being a part of the insane punk rock community around me, and listening to and making music[;] and I miss it more and more as I get older. The album is not me trying to recreate that atmosphere but a place to begin where I left off. […] [N]ot being too precious, finding ways to be vulnerable, and embracing the collision of styles, all of which I hope you feel in this album.”
There’s a lot going on, and our pick for the best place to start among the ramshackle excitement of The Clamor is arguably ‘Turing Toy’, one of the album’s previous singles.
