The celebrated American Poet Robert Frost noted that “There are two kinds of teachers: the kind that fill you with so much quail shot that you can’t move, and the kind that just gives you a little prod behind and you jump to the skies.” To be fair to most teachers these days, quail shot isn’t on the agenda anymore, but I’m sure there’s a modern equivalent – more a metaphorical kick up the backside, perhaps.
We like Dead Leaf Echo here on Backseat Mafia. Their debut album ‘Thought & Language’ made us fall in love with them, full of its shoegazey 4AD style Indie Rock. Describing themselves as Nouveau Wave, thy band – Vocalist/Guitarist/Keyboards Ana B, LG on Guitar and Vocals, Drummer Kevin K, and Bass player Steve S are beginning to create waves outside of their Brooklyn base, and worldwide.
Recently, they’ve been touring with the likes of The Beach Fossils, The Ocean Blue and the legendary Telescopes. If they can’t learn from the likes of them, and I’ve no doubt they have, then there’s something wrong. What’s not clear is whether those bands provided the quail shot or the little prod. Hopefully, the latter.
The band have announced several live dates taking place in October, including appearances at the O+ and CMJ festivals recently. Best get along there and see what Dead Leaf Echo have learnt recently
