Wakefield indie rock quartet Ascendo hit the ground running with their debut release Something Sweeter – a two track EP featuring tracks Pixie Dust and Pink Gin and Lemonade.
The former – Pixie Dust takes the spirit of that wave of Sheffield bands – the Arctic Monkeys, Milburn and the like with this jagged singalonga-indie rock, with jagged guitar interjections and everyone joining in at the end of the lines. Pink Gin and Lemonade is almost pure Oasis territory, Oasis in acoustic guitar mode, the vocals could almost be Liam.
Don’t get us wrong, this is a band finding their feet, both in their writing and in the studio. When they do things are going to get interesting. For now though, this’ll do for pure unadulterated indie rock fun.
