Track: ‘Blink and You’ll Miss It’ – MF Tomlinson unveils the cinematic sweep of his new single ahead of album release and in-store live events

Australian-born UK resident MF Tomlinson will be releasing a new album entitled ‘Die To Wake Up From a Dream’ on 11 July via PRAH Recordings and the second single from the album, ‘Blink and You’ll Miss It’ has just been released.

A far more reflective track, this is a sweeping ballad that is enigmatic and bold, a cinematic score with a panoply of delicate instruments that create a layered texture. Tomlinson says of the poignant track:

The song is about aging, at any age. As the album’s opener, it flows seamlessly from We Are Still Wild Horses down to the beat. It’s a moment — a view from a great height — when the full weight of the distance between the person you used to be and the person you are now hits you like a freight train. It fills you up and empties you out all at once. Everything that has happened brought you here. You can never go back, but then again, you don’t need to. All of those moments are still happening endlessly inside you. You’re holding them all like a vessel.

The process of mutability and the irrevocable nature of time and existence is beautifully captured:

Climb on down the hole
For we all know all you wanna see is where it leads
Through the vines, the black water and the cold
When you emerge you’ll be forever changed
Sometimes I don’t know –
If any bones could ever feel as old as these
All the while I suppose the air couldn’t taste as sweet
If I hadn’t been through the cave

With flutes, trombones and saxophone added to the delicate tendrils of music under his deep thrilling vocals, Tomlinson has created a sonic kaladiascope that is deeply immersive and achingly tender.

The accompanying visual essay by Andrea Zvadova is enigmatic and beautifully shot:

‘Blink and You’ll Miss It’ is out now and available to download and stream here.
