Track: John Dole – Collective Thoughts

Mixing up hip-hop and smooth R&B beats, John Dole is becoming a real player in the North East hip-hop scene and beyond. The Newcastle MC describes his sound as ‘alternative rap’, and there’s certainly a sense of that in his new single ‘Collective Thoughts’.

Wonky synths and and warm R&B descending lines open the show for Collective Thoughts, before the haze clears somewhat to allow John to present his sharply observed and often self deprecating flow, highlighting the struggles of life – modern life. There’s this woozy funk about the whole thing and some memorable soulful vocals that lay over it, and its scuffed up further by this electronic GP hue that gives it a real dreamy quality.
