Brisbane singer-songwriter Laura Frank has announced her debut album, Life In The Front Seat, due for release on October 7, alongside the arrival of its latest single, ‘How Do We’.
The new track follows earlier releases ‘Get What We Deserve’ and ‘God Knows, I Know’, further showcasing Frank’s blend of heartfelt storytelling and alt-country warmth. Built around questions rather than answers, ‘How Do We’ captures the uncertainty that comes with the collapse of a relationship, with Frank describing it as a song born from the weight of not knowing whether something broken can be repaired.
Recorded with producer Jordan Power at Bernard Fanning’s Brooklet Recording studio in northern New South Wales, the song features contributions from a formidable cast of Australian musicians, including John Butler Trio drummer Grant Gerathy, Michael Moko, Jason Daniels, Ollie Thorpe, Nick Morrissey and Mike Mills. Vocalists Jen Mize and Kaitlyn Thomas add further emotional depth through layered harmonies.
The sessions that produced Life In The Front Seat drew together almost a decade’s worth of material. According to Frank, the collaborative atmosphere at Brooklet Recording allowed the songs to evolve organically, with several tracks emerging from full-band live takes. It is a process that reflects the spirit of the album itself: intimate, spontaneous and rooted in human connection.
Over recent years, Frank has steadily built a reputation as one of Australia’s more compelling voices in contemporary country and Americana. Drawing comparisons to artists such as Brandi Carlile and Grace Potter, she has become a familiar presence on the touring circuit, sharing stages with Brad Cox, James Blundell and Melanie Dyer, while appearing at festivals including Tamworth Country Music Festival, Gympie Music Muster and Groundwater Country Music Festival.
Having already completed an extensive 60-date national tour in 2026, Frank shows little sign of slowing down. Ahead of the release of Life In The Front Seat, she will mark the arrival of ‘How Do We’ with an intimate performance at White Chapel in Kalbar, Queensland on June 24, before returning to the stage later this year for the Deni Ute Muster.
