Track: Marketplace Gear Up For Upcoming EP With Buoyant New Single ‘Contact Sports’

Indie risers Marketplace have announced the upcoming EP, Marketplace Mean Business, set to drop on June 6th. Ahead of the release, the band has unveiled the vibrant, buoayand and unapologetically Joyous ‘Contact Sports’, out today (March 28th).

Produced by Chad Rodgers (Benjamin Francis Leftwich, Cape Cub), ‘Contact Sports’ is an energetic indie-alt-pop anthem, as comparable to the likes of Alvvays as it is to the lighter side of Paramore. Indie to its core yet refreshingly punchy and infinitely catchy, the single boasts some tight, punching drums, flourishing guitar work and radiant lead vocals. Euphoric and up tempo, the single is a breath of fresh air.

Vocalist Evie Rhodes sheds light on the inspiration behind the track: “It’s about the early stages of a relationship when everything is up in the air. You know you’re into someone, but you’re still trying to convince yourself it’s not that deep. We took a lot of inspiration from bands like The Beths, who write scrappy love songs that are super sincere but never take themselves too seriously. The song has that same train-of-thought energy, which we really wanted to reflect in the music.”

Marketplace have already built a strong reputation as a live act, having played alongside the likes of Alfie Templeman, Swim Deep, The Lottery Winners, and Abbie Ozard. Their sold-out shows in Manchester, Leeds, and their hometown of Hartlepool are a testament to their growing fanbase.

The band are set to tour the Uk through May just ahead of the new EP release as they continue their rise.
