Paul Berwick played in the iconic Sydney indie band Happy Hate Me Nots back in the last century and we are very pleased to reveal new material under the name Paul Berwick’s Magnetic Quartet, lassoing in some of Sydney’s finest musicians, drummer Nick Kennedy (Imperial Broads, Knievel, The Electorate etc), Matt Galvin and Jim Dickson (Radio Birdman, The New Christs) to back him up. The resulting new track ‘Step Into The Light’ is a jangling slice of indie pop that canters along with intent and melody.
The track, while having a jingle jangle undercurrent, launches into a dirty fuzzy guitar riff that reflects the Stones or Primal Scream: raw edges and a swaggering attitude. Berwick says of the track:
This lead track plants its ‘rock and pop, big beat and even bigger chorus’ flag firmly in the ground for all to see. It has a psychedelic bit in the middle, where the floor falls away and you go somewhere else for a while, til you snap out of it and realise you are the light! You won’t get this rock’n pop thing out of your head once you let it in.

More evidence of the Marrickville Sound developing in the inner west of Sydney.
