People of the wider world, prepare yourselves, because New York duo Cults— aka Madeline Follin and Brian Oblivion—have graced us with their new single, ‘Crybaby’, released on IMPERIAL. It marks their first release in two years, promising more to come from the multi-platinum duo, and is absolutely the best, jouyous slice of indie/synth pop to hit your ears for…..well, whenever.

‘Crybaby’ is a delightful blend of Motown like hooks and torch song vibes, with a chorus that hits you right in the kisser with the weight of its infectious melodies. It’s classic Cults—drenched in synths and lovable from the first note. Throw in some twangy guitars, bells, and a whole array of sonic surprises, and you’ve got something fairly special on your hands.

In the words of Cults themselves, “‘Crybaby’ marks a new direction of exploration. We experimented with a lighter sound influenced by The Crystals, Joe Meek & Kraftwerk. A fun song but also a call out to both sides of codependency.”

But that’s not all—Cults have big plans for world domination ahead. They’ll be hitting the road in style with their headline tour, making a stop at Lollapalooza, and supporting Vampire Weekend on their U.S. tour this autumn. The headline North American run kicks off on August 1st.
