Track, Video and Tour News: Candace – Rewind

“Rewind” is the stunning new single from Portland, Oregon band, Candace from their forthcoming album “New Ruins”. I’m new to Candace (formerly called Is/Is) and feel both a sense of regret that I haven’t come across them before and yet excitement at hearing what’s to come.

“Rewind” has all the elements of the stuff I love: layered harmonies, chiming guitars and oodles of melancholia and wistfulness. It is dream pop at its highest jingle jangle level, accompanied by a home shot video that captures the languorous nature of the song:

Sun-bleached layered harmonies over crisply produced crystalline shards of guitar, Alpine-proportioned melodies and a bass line that manages to serve the song yet create its own distinctive groove. Absolutely gorgeous.

Candace are Sarah Rose (guitar/bass/vocals), Sarah Nienaber (guitar/bass/vocals), and Mara Appel DesLauriers (drums/vocals). The new album, “New Ruins” is out on 2 March and the band is touring through the US in support. Look out for a full review of the album on Backseat Mafia. You can pre-order the album and download the single here.
