You would be wrong to pass off Sessa’s music as laid back. The Sao Paulo born singer – songwriter has already demanded much more than casual attention with his sultry and sensual 2019 debut album ‘Grandeza’. That record introduced a musician entwined with the pulse and poetry of Brazilian music but not engulfed by the heritage. Sessa was bringing psychedelic shades and folk’s emotional sharpness to Tropicalia’s new frontier with flair, invention and individuality.

So it’s not surprising to hear that he is stepping out further with a signing to ultra-hip indie curators Mexican Summer as a platform for his next sashay. First up for the new label comes the shimmering single ‘Gostar do Mundo’, previewing his new album ‘Estrela Acesa’ due June 24th. A song that laps into motion around pattering bass, percussion and relaxed guitar tugs, it’s a tune subtly searching for the deeper chill. Catch those airy swirls of intricate strings, the cooing late sixties backing singers and Sessa’s beguiling, soft-talking vocal and you know that this signals another level of musical exotica.

Calming but with undercurrents, soothing but strangely hypnotic, Sessa’s ‘Estrela Acesa’ looks destined to become a feature well beyond the summer playlists.

You can pre-order Sessa’s ‘Estrela Acesa’ from your local record store or direct from: https://sessa.bandcamp.com/album/estrela-acesa
