Bristol’s post-punk-rave scorchers Scalping drop ‘Empty Cascade’, announce a June EP and dates, including Squarepusher shows

BRISTOL’S groove-heavy post-rave, post-punk sound system scorchers Scalping are celebrating signing to Houndstooth with a first full EP drop next month; from which they wish to whisk you deep into their eternally strobe-lit 2am tent with a first reveal, “Empty Cascade”. Melt your mind below.

The track, we’re told, is a mission statement, mixing the thrum of tribal drums, the sear of acid and the sludge, howl and siren song of guitars in an intoxicating call to the twilit floor.

This single follows on from the fire of last winter’s single drop, “Monolithium”, which came with a side-order of mindbending visuals and well, intense; what do you think? Were you lucky enough to witness their secret split set iwth AK/DK at End of the Road a year or two back? I mean …. a tipi sonic apocalypse.

Bristolians James Rushforth, Alex Hill, Isaac Jones, Jamie Thomas and Jason Baker got together in 2017 with a desire to splice their hometown’s off-kilter dance music to noise-rock and post-punk. And won.

SCALPING have also announced a string of live dates, including a couple of festivals, some headlining shows and some shows with Chelmsford’s finest, Squarepusher – that’ll be something to witness; the dates are as follows.

Thursday, September 2nd, Peckham Audio, London;
Friday, September 3rd, Wide Awake Fest, Brockwell Park, London;
Saturday, September 4th, Manchester Psych Fest, Manchester;
Saturday, September 11th, Misty Fields festival, Heusden, Netherlands;
Friday, September 24th, Loco Klub, Bristol, and then with Squarepusher:
Saturday, October 23rd, Boiler Shop, Newcastle;
Monday, October 25th, Invisible Wind Factory, Liverpool;
Tuesday, October 26th, Brudenell Social Club, Leeds;
Wednesday, October 27th, Concorde2, Brighton;
Thursday, October 28th, Metronome, Nottingham;
Friday, October 29th, Roundhouse, London.
Tickets are available here.

Scalping’s Flood EP will be released by Houndstooth digitally and on translucent violet vinyl on June 18th, and is available to pre-order here.
