Track: The Indieannas – Flying High

I’ve been to Buxton quite a few times. It’s one of those places that, once you’re there, is beautiful with loads of history. Its Built on the River Wye, and overlooked by Axe Edge Moor, but it’s probably most famous as  a spa town due to its geothermal spring, which apparently rises at a constant temperature of 28 °C. The spring waters are piped to St Ann’s Well in the town centre. On more than one occasion I’ve played at the lovely old (but slightly ramshackle in a good way) Opera House, which hosts several festivals and concert series over the year. Mostly though, the thing I think about Buxton is how hard it is to get in and out of it. When the weathers bad, certainly the road to Sheffield is pretty much always closed, mainly because it’s situated in the middle of nowhere in the Peak district.

One group currently not struggling to get out of Buxton is the Indieannas. Formerly known as the stand, they describe themselves as ‘a four piece Indie-Dance/Rock band from the land of Buxton.’ They have made their first steps since the name change, recording a single ‘Flying High’, which is to be released on February 11th through sound-hub records. B-side is Moneyman, originally released as a free download at Christmas, accompanied by  a video the band made with a budget of nothing.  Despite this, the video took off a little worldwide brought the band to a much wider attention. Just goes to show, really.

The Indieannas – Moneyman

Both sides of the new single are meaty slices of Indie-Rock, attitude driven oasis like with searing guitar work, and driving drums. As the band blurb so succinctly puts it ‘What sets The Indieannas apart is the marker of vintage quality allied with the adaptability to move with the times’ Quite so gentlemen.

The Indieannas – Flying High

You can catch the boys touring in support of the single with dates at Level 2 – , Buxton (Feb 8th), Rescue Rooms – Nottingham (9th), The Vic – Derby (12th), and right here in Sheffield at the Dada Bar on the 21st, with another date at Macclesfield – Snowgoose live on the 23rd. It might be virtually inaccessible, especially at this time of year, but The Indiannas are bringing just a little bit of Buxton to the world. Catch them while they’re hot.
