Meet: Garage Psychedelic Rockers Sun Q

With the release of the band’s first UK single Dionysus, it’s the perfect time to let the band introduce themselves and tell us a little bit about themselves.

Give us a potted history of the band

Our first song came out in 2015, which can be considered the beginning of our band. During this time we have recorded a charming longplay, several singles, played concerts at festivals and awesome venues, toured, worked with different talented musicians, grown musically, and managed to formulate our creativity as “magical realism”. We like to make an atmosphere close to trance on stage, and to mix dirty sounding guitar, lyrics full of symbolism, and brightvocals. This contrast and vibe creates our uniqueness, we guess.

Who inspired you to start making music

You just get more out of music than any other activity. And when you listen to a lot of great music, you want to know how it all works from the inside.

And the one or maybe two records that inspired you artistically

There were different records in different years. Perhaps, in the very beginning, “El Camino” by The Black Keys and “Ceremonials” by Florence + the Machine inspired us the most.

If you’re trying to explain who you sound like to someone that’s never heard you, what do you say

Imagine what a novel “100 Years of Solitude”would sound like if it was music.

Tell us about your new track

It’s a real ancient Greek bacchanalia, but in the stoner rock version. We had a lot of fun making it up. This song is the first single from the upcoming album, which will be called “Myth”. Myths are eternal and common to most of us — that’s why they are such powerful source of inspiration.

Where can we get hold of it

As of February 17, the single “Dionysus” by Sun Q can be heard on all possible streaming services. And you can also buy some merch.

Tell us how you write

That’s confidential information.

Tell us about your live show What would be your dream gig

Our live shows are a bit of shamanism and magic, a bit of blues-rock for conservatives, vintage vibes, loose hair, gypsy bracelets, primal tambourine dancing and our beloved beautiful listeners.

What can we expect from you in the near future

We’re going to do a couple more singles, and then we’ll finally have a second album released. It’s very exciting, we’ve been waiting for this moment for three years.

Tell us your favourite records that’s rocking your headphones/tour bus / stereo

Shuffle of some modern and old, psychedelic and progressive, dirty and clean, soft and hard.
