It might be very close to the end of 2015, but this might just be very close to being my favourite track of the year. Turns out that in late 2013 Alex and Sierra Haager escaped from their jobs and lives in California and headed to Portland Oregon (of course) to start Breakup Records. Subsequently, they’ve found time to also start bed. (note the full stop) They’ve spent the last 18 months teasing us with songs and video, and supporting the likes of Sylvan Esso, R. Ring, Diet Cig and Telekinesis.
The Rule has this timeless swagger about it, and mixes up these gritty, almost grinding guitars with the sweetness of Sierra’s vocals. Its halfway between supressed grunge and ethereal indie and add in this swooning melody and it seems like it might just be the perfect cure for the excesses of the season.

In 2016, the band will be releasing a five-track 12″ EP via Portland indie label Bug Hunt – as well as their debut full-length record, which they are currently recording with producer Larry Crane at Jackpot Recording Studio in Portland.
