Album Review: The Orb – Moonbuilding 2703 AD

The Orb have landed on planet kompakt once more to deliver their latest outerstellar offering entitled ‘Moonbuilding 2703’. If your an Orbian (I just made that up, but Orbian sounds about right for their followers) you’ll know that like certain artists they are in a field of their own, that is to say their music is viewed not so much as music but as individual pieces of art that the listener can emerge themselves into. Because of their large body of outstanding work when something new comes around it is never a simple discussion of good or bad but rather where will it sit within the Orb world. Like art itself everyone has there favourite pieces but as with all the Orbs explorations there is something to be found, explored and enjoyed. OK, I’ll take my trainspotters jacket off now and simply say  ‘Moonbuilding 2703 AD’  is a wonderful addition to the Orb world, it’s full of wonderous sound scapes, rhythmic hypnotizing beats, floating melodies and cool little samples. It’s a beat driven rhythmic affair with the exception of  ‘Lunar Cave’, a sparkling ethereal journeying through the cosmos. Another fine release that will no doubt be on constant rotation in all Orbian households soon. But wait, why not check it out yourself before procuring. Countdown will begin in T minus 10 seconds………
