While the late ‘80s chased excess, Toronto’s Cowboy Junkies chose restraint — and made history doing it. With 1988’s The Trinity Session, they whispered into the chaos and found an audience craving beauty over bombast. That minimalist masterpiece — a live-to-tape blend of folk, blues and alt-country recorded in a church — would go on to sell over a million copies and become one of the most quietly radical albums of its era.

Now, the band — still anchored by siblings Margo, Michael, and Peter Timmins, alongside longtime bassist Alan Anton — are returning to Australia and New Zealand this November for a run of shows celebrating their remarkable 40-year journey. Expect a career-spanning setlist that reaches deep into their catalogue, from The Trinity Session to their latest album, Such Ferocious Beauty, released in 2023 to wide critical acclaim.

Across 29 albums and four decades, Cowboy Junkies have avoided the usual pitfalls — no dramatic implosions, no lengthy hiatuses. Instead, they’ve carved out a singular space in alt-rock and alt-country history, powered by intimacy, trust, and the slow burn of a band that knows exactly who they are.
