After months of teasing and anticipation, multi-instrumentalist and composer-producer Danny G Felix has released his long-awaited new album, End of Now.
The 10-track album is a vivid tapestry of experimental sounds, blending choppy electronic backbeats with lush melodic phrasing. Felix, known for his genre-defying approach and intricate arrangements, brings a rich sense of storytelling to the record. End of Now features collaborations with Rory Brown and Lari Costa, further expanding its sonic depth and genre-crossing scope.
Felix, currently based in Chicago, has long been recognized for his musical versatility. A trained pianist and trumpeter with deep roots in jazz and soul, he has performed and collaborated with luminaries such as Gregory Porter, The Blind Boys of Alabama, Aloe Blacc, and Mike Nock. His career also spans continents — having founded three live music residencies in Sydney, and genres, effortlessly moving through jazz, funk, soul, and experimental electronic music.
End of Now is both a personal and conceptual work. Speaking about the influences behind the album, Felix says: “I’ve been subjected to some David Lynch films and some pretty dark, twisted events that got me thinking about the apocalypse while creating the music for this album. That, along with some very sensual Caribbean grooves and abstract free jazz.”
The result is an album that is both cerebral and sensual, disorienting and grounded — a mirror of the surreal times in which it was made. Tracks from the album carry a cinematic quality, using texture and rhythm to evoke tension and release, while still leaving space for moments of melodic beauty.
