For the first time in more than a decade, New Year’s Eve is heading back to Bondi Beach, with Fuzzy teaming up with Barcelona party institution elrow for a suitably enormous way to see out 2026. elrow Sydney XXL will take over the famous stretch of coastline with two stages, giant inflatables, roaming performers and the sort of wonderfully over-the-top production that has become the brand’s calling card.
The event was originally planned for 2025, but its delayed arrival means Sydney is getting the XXL treatment this time around, the biggest version of elrow yet to land in Australia. Founded in Barcelona in 2010 by siblings Juan Arnau Jr. and Cruz Arnau, elrow has since taken its colourful brand of dancefloor chaos around the world, from Ibiza and London to full-scale festivals in Madrid and Italy. More than six million people have attended its events across 50 cities and 40 countries.
And subtlety isn’t invited to Bondi. The theme for Sydney is ‘El triángulo de las Rowmudas’, or the Rowmuda Triangle, a shipwreck fantasy built around a towering pirate ship stage. The story involves a vessel lost somewhere between Atlantis and Ibiza’s Es Vedrà, a Kraken swallowing the whole thing and, naturally, everyone deciding the sensible response is to keep partying inside the sea monster. Expect sunken planes, rusted hulls, inflatable sea creatures, scuba divers, pirates and mermaids, with punters encouraged to dress accordingly.
A second stage, the Pink Cathedral, brings another dose of elrow weirdness to the shoreline, combining an enormous inflatable setting with electronic music, glitter and theatrical performers. Every elrow production is developed in Barcelona by its own team of designers, engineers and creative directors, with each theme adapted to the space and crowd rather than simply dropped into another city unchanged.
There will also be something considerably calmer happening nearby. Locals Lawn at the southern end of Bondi Beach Park will be a free, all-ages area for eligible Waverley residents, with food trucks, roaming entertainment and an early 9pm fireworks display. Places are limited and residents will need to register using their postcode.
Anyone who held a ticket to the cancelled 2025 event gets first crack at tickets, with the priority ballot opening at 12pm AEST on September 17. The locals presale begins at 10am AEST on September 30, followed by the general presale at midday the same day. The music lineup is still under wraps and will be revealed in the coming weeks, giving elrow one fairly important card left to play before its pirate ship finally runs aground at Bondi. The event also arrives during Fuzzy’s 30th anniversary year, bringing three decades of Australian dance music history to one very large New Year’s Eve party.
