UK-based electronic producer Frankie Alpha blends IDM with pensive emotional delivery on ‘Bludgeoning On the Dancefloor’.
Marking the first in a carefully timed series of releases, the track sets the tone for Alpha’s long-awaited debut EP. Capturing a sound comparable to the likes of DARKSIDE and Nicholas Jaar, the single showcases the musicality and elegant production that stylises the full upcoming EP.
Described by Alpha as “both frisky and a little tongue-in-cheek,” the single brings an atmospheric, experimental ambience around the jerky synth work and angular beats. It’s a testament to Alpha’s technical prowess that ‘Bludgeoning On the Dancefloor’ can slip seamlessly between intimate living room listening and full-throttle club play.
“This was an extremely playful track to put together,” Alpha explains. “I fed off its light and floaty, synth sound and the rhythm of it. I like how the clunky bass distortions clash like peanut butter and glass with its fragmented soul sound and underlying, provocative groove.”
Anchored by beat-driven foundations and textured with experimental vocal harmonies, the track unfolds slowly, building on airy melodies before taking a sharp left turn halfway through. That moment of transformation is no accident.
“My intention was always to suddenly take the track in a different direction, letting loose a silky bassline that was almost hiding underneath, waiting to be teased out,” Alpha says.
A trained drummer and meticulous producer, Alpha’s attention to sonic detail gives the track a sculptural quality — every element deliberately placed, every beat carrying intent. With the debut EP, Alpha is ready to formalise a musical identity that’s been years in the making. The project promises a varied selection of tracks, from ambient pop to club ready electronica.
