Gothenburg alternative rock six-piece Divers will release their new single ‘The Hunt’, the opening track from their forthcoming EP Shapeshifting, due May 22nd via Little Low Recordings.
Moody, atmospheric and quietly unsettling, ‘The Hunt’ unfolds with a Doors-esque call-and-response verse, where lead vocalist Lina Horner’s voice moves through the arrangement with a cool, spectral authority. From there, the track steadily expands into an expansive, wide-open chorus that feels both cathartic and inevitable. Rooted in alternative rock with a subtle strain of post-punk, the song balances a sense of unease with something more playful and strange, the kind of track that feels like it is watching you back as much as it is being listened to.
“The Hunt is about that hunt that is constantly going on in today’s welfare society,” the band explain. “A hunt for new thrills, affirmation, money. But what are we prepared to give to end up at the so-called top? If we dare to stop instead of chasing further, maybe we can hear it, the hope in the wind or birds singing about an awakening.”
The single introduces Shapeshifting, a four-track EP recorded at the legendary Hansa Studios in Berlin, a space steeped in musical history where artists such as David Bowie, Depeche Mode and Nick Cave created some of their most defining work. For Divers, the studio environment became an active force in the writing and recording process, shaping both the intensity and ambition of the material.
Across its four songs, Shapeshifting finds the band at their most intricate, idea-driven and sonically heavy to date, emerging from the sessions with a renewed sense of focus and creative urgency often associated with the iconic studio.
Divers, Lina Horner (vocals), Hans Olsson (synths and backing vocals), John Lönnmyr (keys and backing vocals), Erik Ivarsson (guitar), Pablo Copa (bass and backing vocals), and Johan Jansson (drums), formed in Gothenburg and have built a strong reputation through three acclaimed albums and an extensive live presence. With ‘The Hunt’ and the upcoming EP Shapeshifting, the band step into a new phase defined by transformation, ambition, and a sharpened sense of identity.
