Hermitude have released EIGHT, their eighth studio album and a record that shifts their focus firmly back toward the dancefloor. Twenty-five years into their career, the Blue Mountains duo move away from the introspective tone of Mirror Mountain and into something more direct, built around rhythm, movement and club dynamics.
The album draws from techno, breaks and UK garage, shaped by a period spent reconnecting with DJ culture and contemporary dance music. That influence is clear in the structure of the record. Tracks are built to carry momentum, prioritising energy and pacing over atmosphere, while still retaining the melodic detail that has defined their earlier work.
The title EIGHT reflects that shift while also pointing to continuity. Both Elgusto and Luke Dubs arrived at it independently, linking it to ideas of repetition and renewal. That sense of cycle runs through the record, not as a concept piece, but as a thread connecting its different moods and tempos.
Focus track I Want Ya, co-written with Melbourne producer IsGwan, sits at the centre of the album. It brings together local connections and broader influences, combining a club-driven structure with a more expansive melodic approach. Around it, the record moves between different textures, from the lighter tone of For The Night featuring DEVAURA to the heavier push of Light Up with Bob Vylan.
Elsewhere, Royalty featuring Adrian Dzvuke anchors the record with a more anthemic feel, while tracks like Vapor and 9th Moon pull the pace back, allowing space before the album closes. Throughout, the production remains controlled, even as the tempo shifts.
Recorded in their Blue Mountains studio, the album developed during a period the duo describe as personally challenging, with the studio functioning as a contained creative space. That contrast between external pressure and internal focus feeds into the record’s tone, which leans toward release rather than reflection.
EIGHT also marks their first release on their own label, Heavy Weather, extending a career that has moved from early independent releases through to international recognition. From Hyperparadise and its widely circulated remix through to chart success with Dark Night Sweet Light, Hermitude have maintained a presence across both Australian and global electronic scenes.
To support the release, the duo have mapped out a series of record store appearances across New South Wales, followed by a national tour built around the album’s club-oriented direction. It’s a rollout that mirrors the record itself, direct, immediate and focused on live response.
