After quietly building one of indie folk’s most devoted followings over the past few years, Searows will finally make his Australian debut this November, bringing his Death in the Business of Whaling Tour to intimate venues across Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne.

The project of Pacific Northwest singer-songwriter Alec Duckart, Searows will perform at Sydney’s City Recital Hallon 20 November, The Triffid in Brisbane on 22 November and Melbourne Recital Centre on 24 November, marking the first opportunity for Australian audiences to experience his deeply intimate live show.

Duckart’s rise has been anything but conventional. Since the release of the quietly devastating ‘House Song’ in 2023, Searows has developed a loyal international audience drawn to his understated songwriting and emotionally direct lyricism. Early releases including Guard Dog, End of the World and flush established him as one of indie folk’s most compelling new voices, while tours alongside Gracie Abrams and Ethel Cain introduced his music to an even wider audience.

His latest album, Death in the Business of Whaling, represents another significant step forward. Expanding beyond the sparse arrangements that first defined his work, the record embraces a broader, more cinematic palette while retaining the quiet intimacy at the heart of his songwriting. Across its songs, Duckart explores grief, mortality, identity and human connection with a restraint that gives the material its emotional weight rather than diminishing it.

Tracks including ‘House Song’, ‘Keep The Rain’, ‘End Of The World’ and ‘Funny’ have already amassed millions of streams, helping establish Searows as one of the most closely watched artists in contemporary indie music. Yet it is on stage, where the songs are stripped back to their emotional core, that his reputation has grown most rapidly, with sold-out headline dates across North America, the UK and Europe cementing his status as a captivating live performer.

For Australian audiences, these November dates offer the chance to catch an artist at a pivotal point in his career. With Death in the Business of Whaling earning widespread acclaim and his profile continuing to grow internationally, Searows arrives not as a viral curiosity but as a songwriter whose quiet, carefully crafted work has found an increasingly global audience.
