News: Indie Royalty Franz Ferdinand Set for Huge Return to Australia

Franz Ferdinand are heading back to Australia later this year. The Scottish post-punk icons will headline Live At The Gardens at Melbourne’s Royal Botanic Gardens on Friday 28 November, marking their first Aussie run since 2018. Riding high off their greatest hits album Hits To The Head and 2022’s The Human Fear, the band will be joined by fast-rising local talents Teenage Dads and Delivery for a lineup that fuses nostalgia with new blood.

Franz Ferdinand first exploded onto the Australian charts with Take Me Out — a dancefloor-shaking indie anthem that topped Triple J’s Hottest 100 in 2004 and launched them into global fame. Over two decades, they’ve built a formidable legacy with six studio albums, more than 10 million records sold, 2.5 billion streams, and accolades including Brit, Ivor Novello and Mercury Prize awards, as well as Grammy nominations and two ARIA Top 10 albums. Known for their electrifying live shows, they’ve packed out global tours and played major festivals like Reading, Leeds, Primavera, Big Day Out and Splendour In The Grass.

Franz Ferdinand will also light up stages in Perth, Brisbane, Thirroul and the Sydney Opera House Forecourt as part of this long-awaited return. With bangers like Do You Want To, This Fire and No You Girls still rattling dancefloors and streaming charts, this isn’t just a comeback — it’s a celebration. Expect sharp suits, sharper riffs and a catalogue that still sounds like the future.
