News: Oslo’s Yndling Dives Into Trip-Hop With New Single ‘Falling Behind’

Oslo-based dream-pop artist Yndling is offering fans another glimpse into her upcoming sophomore album Time Time Time (I’m in the Palm of Your Hand) November 4th via Spirit Goth Records. The glittering new single Falling Behind finds the rising artist leaning deeper into the hypnotic allure of trip-hop, balancing her ethereal soundscapes with grooves comparable to Massive Attack and Portishead.

Blending swirling synths with a boxy trip-hop beat and distorted guitar lines, the single threads Björk-esque vocals through psychedelic undertones to create a compelling, experimental and beautifully pulled together soundscape. As the track grows, the musicality shines through developing chord structures and overlapping melodies, before eventually reaching a climactic guitar led finale.

“This song has been so much fun to play live this spring and summer, and I’m so excited for it to finally be out!” Yndling shares. “It was one of my most trip-hop inspired songs from the start. I really like the groove and the repetitiveness of the chorus—we wanted to give it a meditative feel.”

Hypnotic, dark and yet lyrically intimate, the track explores the liminal space between dream pop and trip-hop, creating a trancey yet sonically rich example of what Yndling is capable of. It’s a bold sonic step forward that reflects the thematic ambition of her forthcoming record. Yndling’s sophomore album embraces duality through its two-part release structure. The first half leans into classic shoegaze and dream-pop influences, echoing the lush atmospherics of Cocteau Twins, Slowdive, and Beach House, while the second ventures into darker, more experimental territory, weaving in trip-hop’s shadowy pulse.

Thematically, the record wrestles with impermanence and human complexity. “It explores the theme of time and change, about how I used to think I’d arrive somewhere in life, but have come to realize that will probably never happen; everything is kind of temporary and fluid,” Yndling explains. “It’s about hurting people without meaning to, and trying to extend that understanding to other people too… It’s about growing apart and things panning out different than you’d thought, and all the different versions humans are when they interact with different worlds.” Created with long-time collaborator Adrian Einestor Sandberg, the upcoming album translates these reflections into a sonic landscape that feels both deeply personal and universally resonant, retaining Yndling’s trademark dreamlike quality while expanding her palette.
