New Jersey singer-songwriter Steven Lemon returns with ‘Still Goin’’, a reflective indie-pop-meets-americana-blues-rock track that explores the emotional contradiction of walking away while still feeling deeply attached to what’s being left behind.
Capturing a sound comparable to John Mayer on the new single, Lemon continues to refine a sound built on melody-forward songwriting and classic song structure, filtered through a modern sensibility. His work draws from the storytelling instincts of early rock and roll while maintaining the emotional directness associated with contemporary songwriting, creating a style that feels both familiar and personal.
Much of Lemon’s artistic foundation is rooted in the songcraft of the 1950s and 60s, combined with the melodic sensibilities of 1980s pop. He has often cited influences such as Buddy Holly, Bobby Vee, The Everly Brothers, Bobby Vinton, and Neil Sedaka. From these influences, his writing often embraces simple, enduring structures that keep melody and emotion at the centre of the experience.
‘Still Goin’ continues in that tradition while shifting into a more introspective emotional space. Written as one of the final songs for his upcoming album The Imprisoned Mind, the track reflects on the uneasy condition of leaving something behind while part of the self remains unprepared to fully let go. Rather than resolving that tension, the song sits within it.
Lemon describes the track in candid terms:
“Still Goin’ is one of the final songs I wrote for my upcoming album, The Imprisoned Mind. The song explores the complicated emotions that come with leaving a relationship or situation that you’re not truly ready to leave.
At its core, the song is about pride, resistance, and the struggle to move forward. Sometimes we tell ourselves we’re walking away on our terms, when underneath it all there is still hurt, confusion, and a longing for what was lost and to keep moving despite the weight of unresolved emotions. It’s about finding the strength to continue while acknowledging that some parts of us may still be holding on.”
That tension defines ‘Still Goin’, where forward motion and emotional hesitation exist side by side. Rather than presenting departure as clean or final, the track lingers in the ambiguity of transition, where clarity often arrives only after the moment of change has passed.
Across The Imprisoned Mind, Lemon continues to explore emotional states that resist easy resolution, shaped through structured songwriting that allows feeling to lead arrangement and dynamics rather than overwhelm them.
With ‘Still Goin’, Steven Lemon offers a focused snapshot of that approach: a song about moving forward while still carrying what came before, and learning to live inside that contradiction rather than escape it.
