The Summer Series at Somerset House has become a staple on the London music calendar. Now in its’s 23rd year it has grown in stature and kudos, continuing to showcase an eclectic programme of international artists and up and coming acts.
Unlike many other outdoor day festivals in the city, Somerset House is an intimate and stunning venue, set in the Edmond J. Safra Fountain Courtyard and surrounded by imposing neo-classical architecture, providing a majestic backdrop.
This year yet again, has an impressively diverse line up with Naika, The Cribs, Black Country New Road, The Lightening Seeds and Benjamin Clementine amongst the highlights.
Prime time Saturday night show goes to the Californian psychedelic rockers The Flaming Lips, stopping by the UK after a European tour. Lead singer and founding member Wayne Coyne was recently hospitalised in Vienna with pneumonia, but thankfully has recovered and is back on form, leading the band through some phenomenal performances.
The Flaming Lips shows are renowned for their crazy stage effects, balloons, blow up robots and Wayne in his bubble crowdsurfing! They are as much a visual phenomenon as a musical one, and on Saturday night they will entertain us with 2 sets! It’s going to be spectacular!’
