The Fray clearly enjoyed themselves Down Under last time. After selling out all six dates of their 2025 Australian tour, the Colorado rockers are heading back in February 2027 for the ‘Summer of Light Tour’, this time adding New Zealand to the itinerary for the first time.
The tour mixes traditional headline shows with a run of outdoor Lookout Festival dates. It kicks off at Melbourne’s Margaret Court Arena on February 5 before The Fray head to Torquay, Perth, Wollongong, Lake Macquarie, Sydney and Sandstone Point, wrapping things up with their first New Zealand show at Auckland’s Eventfinda on February 17.
There’s plenty happening around them, too. Dashboard Confessional join The Fray for the indoor dates in Melbourne, Sydney and Auckland, with Rachael Fahim appearing across all four indoor shows. Wollongong gets The Fray and Fahim without Dashboard Confessional. The Lookout Festival dates bring an even bigger bill, with Bastille, Dashboard Confessional, Killing Heidi and Little Birdy joining the party, although Killing Heidi won’t appear in Perth.
The timing also catches The Fray at the start of a new chapter. Their forthcoming album ‘A Light That Waits’ is their first full-length collection of new music in more than a decade and the first from the core trio of Joe King, Dave Welsh and Ben Wysocki. The 2027 shows will give the new material some room alongside the songs that have been following the band around for the past 20 years.
And there’s no getting around ‘How to Save a Life’. The song became one of the defining rock ballads of the 2000s, spent 58 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 and found another life through its connection with ‘Grey’s Anatomy’. The Fray have picked up four Grammy nominations and three Billboard Music Awards along the way, but it’s the longevity of songs like this that explains why they can still sell out Australian shows two decades into their career.
Dashboard Confessional bring their own hefty dose of early-2000s alternative rock history to the tour. Chris Carrabba and co. have been back in full swing following ninth album ‘All The Truth That I Can Tell’, making the pairing with The Fray a pretty neat collision of two bands whose songs soundtracked a lot of messy bedrooms, burned CDs and complicated relationships.
