Australian fans of Scandinavian rock are in for a rare double bill this year, with Sweden’s The Hellacopters returning to Australia for the first time in years alongside Norwegian rock veterans Gluecifer, who will make their long-awaited Australian debut.
For The Hellacopters, the tour marks another chapter in a career that has helped define Scandinavian garage rock since the mid-1990s. Emerging from Stockholm in 1994, the band quickly established themselves with the GRAMMY Award-winning debut Supershitty To The Max, before albums such as Payin’ The Dues and Grande Rock cemented their reputation for combining garage rock, punk and classic hard rock influences into a distinctive sound. Fronted by Nicke Andersson, whose musical pedigree also includes death metal pioneers Entombed, the band became one of Sweden’s most influential rock exports alongside contemporaries such as The Hives.
After disbanding in 2007, The Hellacopters reunited in 2016 and have steadily rebuilt momentum, culminating in the release of their ninth studio album, Overdriver, in 2025. The upcoming Australian tour offers local audiences the chance to hear material spanning three decades of the band’s catalogue.
Joining them are Norway’s Gluecifer, whose story closely parallels that of their Swedish counterparts. Formed in Oslo in 1994, the band became one of the defining names of the Scandinavian hard rock resurgence through records including Ridin’ The Tiger, Tender Is The Savage and Basement Apes. Their blend of swaggering riffs, punk attitude and classic rock influences helped establish them as one of Norway’s most respected rock bands before their split in 2005.
Since reforming in 2017, Gluecifer have returned to recording and touring, with their latest album Same Drug New High demonstrating that the band’s chemistry remains firmly intact. Their first Australian performances have been a long time coming, making this tour a significant moment for fans who have waited years to see them on local stages.
