News: ‘Time to Take Some Time’: Marlon Williams Steps Back From the Road

Marlon Williams has revealed he will take an extended break from touring, marking his final run of Australian shows this March. The decision follows an intensive period that saw the release of his latest album Te Whare Tīwekaweka and more than two years spent filming the 2025 documentary Ngā Ao E Rua – Two Worlds.

Backseat Mafia caught Williams at the Sydney Opera House in 2025, where his performance balanced theatrical poise with quiet intimacy — a reminder of how carefully he curates the live space around his songs. That same considered energy now informs his decision to pause.

In a statement shared with fans, Williams framed the move not as retreat but recalibration. “I’m gonna take some time away for a bit. Probably not ages in the scheme of things, but it’s time to take some time,” he wrote, reflecting on nearly two decades of living closely aligned with his musical calling.

Williams pointed to the Māori concept of rāhui as a guiding principle. Defined as a temporary prohibition or closed season, rāhui allows for recovery and conservation, whether of land, resources or community. For Williams, the idea offered clarity. To continue doing what he loves long term, a period of rest is essential. The blessing of sustained creative work, he notes, can obscure the toll it takes on body and spirit.
