Local Natives say, “Our new album begins with the ambient sound of Kelcey, Ryan and Taylor outside in the backyard of a Los Angeles studio singing these words together huddled around a single microphone. Suddenly, the song kicks in with the full fidelity of the entire band, repeating the lyrics like a mantra of reassurance. Time flows on uncontrollably and change is relentless, and the people you love are the only constants. This album was made during a time of metamorphosis for us. Former selves melting away as some of us became fathers. We endured periods of isolation, loss, and identity crisis. We grew and changed as individuals, but we found our way back to each other and made music that we can only make together.”
The album release is accompanied by single ‘Empty Mansions‘, a track with harmonious, rich vocals on the chorus that are punctuated by transfixing softer spoken-sung verses that paint a picture of self-doubt and self-imposed seclusion: “we’re just empty mansions on eroding shores / falling down so slowly no one notices at all.”
