Tove Lo is heading back to Australia in March 2027, bringing her ‘ESTRUS’ tour to Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and Perth with rising Australian pop artist SALTY joining her across all four dates.
The Australian run follows the release of Tove Lo’s sixth album, ‘ESTRUS’, arriving worldwide on September 18. The accompanying global tour begins in Nashville on September 15 before moving through the US, Canada, Mexico, the UK and Europe, with Australia joining the itinerary next March.
‘ESTRUS’ finds the Swedish singer-songwriter digging further into the collision of sex, vulnerability and emotional chaos that has run through her work from the beginning. Its title refers to the period when a female mammal is in heat, a typically unguarded choice from an artist who has rarely shown much interest in sanding down the uncomfortable edges of pop music.
For the new record, Tove Lo draws on the Swedish indie and electronic music she grew up around, including the influence of The Knife and Robyn. Longtime collaborator Ludvig Söderberg returns alongside Elvira Anderfjärd and Luka Kloser, while Stromae appears on the album as a collaborator. Recording took place across Los Angeles, Stockholm and a small Swedish fishing village where Tove Lo spent summers as a child and previously worked on parts of ‘Dirt Femme’.
That return to familiar territory also gave the record access to less comfortable memories. ‘ESTRUS’ reaches back through adolescence, depression, struggles with eating, relationships, family upheaval and loss, filtering those experiences through the perspective of an artist now six albums into a career built on putting messy subjects directly into pop songs.
It is an approach that has taken Tove Lo from the bruised hedonism of ‘Habits (Stay High)’ through ‘Talking Body’, ‘Cool Girl’, ‘Disco Tits’ and ‘Glad He’s Gone’. Across that catalogue, sex and pleasure have frequently occupied the same space as loneliness, addiction and self-destruction, giving her pop an emotional volatility that has survived the transition from clubs to considerably larger stages.
Australian support SALTY arrives with momentum of her own. Following debut EP ‘the other side’ and ‘See U In 3’, she has continued with ‘Touch Grass’ and ‘The Eye’, building a catalogue of sharp-edged pop that turns romantic and everyday disasters into hooks. Putting her alongside Tove Lo makes for a pairing that should have little trouble finding common ground.
For Australian fans, ‘ESTRUS’ now gets its live introduction in March, with Tove Lo promising a show that pushes further into the sweat, dirt and emotional extremes at the centre of her new record.
