Trevor Phelps begins a new chapter with the release of ‘Home Now’, the first single from the forthcoming third studio album, Small Town. Arriving four years after his previous full-length release, the track marks a confident return for the Arkansas songwriter, defined by clarity, nostalgia, and a renewed sense of purpose.
A glittering indie-pop instant classic, ‘Home Now’ is built around infectious riffs, fuzzy sing-along vocals, and stylish production that feels both familiar and forward-thinking. It signals a clean slate for Phelps, stripping everything back to the essentials: memorable melodies, emotional honesty, and hooks designed to stay with you.
Following the late-2025 release of the Who I Am Now EP, ‘Home Now’ represents a refined evolution in Phelps’ sound. Simpler, sharper, and more focused, the single channels the mid-noughties indie spirit of bands such as Cage The Elephant and Bombay Bicycle Club, while avoiding a purely backward-looking approach. Instead, Phelps takes inspiration from that era and reshapes it into something fresh, modern, and distinctly his own, creating a carefully crafted blend of atmosphere, melody, and irresistible hooks.
At its core, ‘Home Now’ is a song about memory, place, and the fleeting nature of growing up. A child of Arkansas, Phelps captures the feeling of small-town teenage life through late-night drives, local shows, familiar streets, and the moments that seem ordinary until they become the memories you return to years later.
The song’s setting is specifically Van Buren, Arkansas, the place where Phelps and his friends spent their teenage years hanging out, driving around parking lots, and soaking up the routines that once felt permanent. As life began to change and friends started leaving for college and new chapters, those moments became snapshots of a past that could never quite be recreated.
Having since moved to Fort Smith, Phelps wrote ‘Home Now’ from the perspective of someone looking back on that transition. It became the first song written for Small Town and set the emotional direction for the album that follows.
Phelps wanted the track to feel natural and instinctive, describing it as sounding “like a group of friends making music together late at night”, capturing the energy of shared memories rather than a carefully manufactured nostalgia.
“My friends, the places we grew up, the routines that once felt permanent, suddenly they all became memories. I started writing these songs because I wanted to capture that feeling as honestly as I could before it faded. That’s what I wanted ‘Home Now’ to be,” says Trevor.
The release follows a growing wave of support for Phelps, with ‘Home Now’ already receiving attention from Arkansas radio, including Little Rock, while also reaching audiences across Europe through a collection of radio shows in countries including Romania and Croatia. His previous single ‘Picture Perfect’ was also championed by Apple Music through its New In Alternative playlist.
With ‘Home Now’, Trevor Phelps transforms a deeply personal reflection into a universal indie anthem, celebrating where he came from, the people who shaped him, and the memories that continue to define him. It serves as both a return and a fresh beginning, offering the first glimpse into the world of Small Town.
