West Lothian’s fast-rising indie rock outfit Heavy Weather are ushering in an exciting new chapter with the release of their powerful new single, ‘White Noise’. Serving as the first taste of the band’s forthcoming sophomore EP, the track sees the five-piece embrace soaring Britpop influences while retaining the energetic guitar-driven identity that has made them one of Scotland’s most exciting grassroots success stories.
Blending infectious melodies with expansive, atmospheric production, ‘White Noise’ draws inspiration from the timeless swagger of 90s icons such as The Stone Roses and The Verve, while delivering a modern edge entirely their own. Produced by Mark Morrow (Swim School, Wrest, Fright Years), the single pairs shimmering reverb-soaked guitars, pounding drums and weighty basslines with huge vocal hooks designed for festival crowds and packed venues alike.
Lyrically, the track captures the uncertainty and emotional weight of modern life, balancing introspection with optimism. Against a backdrop of renewed Britpop nostalgia, ‘White Noise’ explores the universal desire to escape the relentless pressures of the world and reconnect with the moments that matter most.
Speaking about the new release, the band said: “White Noise was a conscious effort to capture the anthemic swagger of a lot of 90s tunes that we grew up on, mixed with our own stamp of big guitar lines and catchy hooks. The song was inspired by an air of Britpop nostalgia in the past 12 months blended with our taste for moody textures and provoking lyrics. The song explores the overwhelming fear & tension in the world today and the desire to put it all aside for a second and enjoy what makes life worth living.”
Heavy Weather have enjoyed a remarkable rise over the past year. Their acclaimed 2025 debut EP, ‘And Now The Weather’, firmly established them as one of Scotland’s standout emerging acts, earning a reputation for explosive live performances packed with energy, confidence and undeniable chemistry.
That reputation has translated into major opportunities. Following sold-out headline shows at Mash House, St Luke’s and the legendary King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut, the band have also performed at both the Isle of Wight Festival and WeAre8 Festival, where they were personally selected by alt-J’s Gus Unger-Hamilton. Further recognition has come through inclusion in This Feeling’s prestigious ‘Big in 2025’ shortlist, support slots alongside The Clause, World News and Biig Time (DMA’s), and continued backing from BBC Introducing Scotland.
