Australian singer-songwriter Olivia Coggan continues her impressive run of releases with ‘Fault Line’, a reflective indie folk-pop single that captures the uncertainty and quiet optimism that often accompanies life’s biggest turning points.
Following earlier 2026 releases ‘lend me your heart’ and ‘bulletproof’, ‘Fault Line’ finds Coggan leaning into warm, expansive arrangements while allowing her songwriting to take centre stage. Produced by Tim Goodburn and mastered by Paul Blakey, the track blends understated indie-folk with polished pop.
Written during a period of significant personal change, ‘Fault Line’ reflects on learning to trust instinct when the future feels uncertain. Rather than presenting transformation as a dramatic leap, Coggan explores the quieter moments that come beforehand, where excitement and apprehension exist side by side. It’s an intimate piece of songwriting that favours emotional honesty over easy resolution, while layers of lush harmonies drift around Coggan’s voice, adding warmth without ever overwhelming its quiet intimacy.

Music has long been woven into Coggan’s life. Growing up in the Illawarra, she spent much of her childhood backstage while accompanying her father, acclaimed Australian musician and actor Darren Coggan, before developing her own songwriting voice in high school. Mentored by Kasey Chambers, she has since toured with artists including Missy Higgins, Boy & Bear, The Dreggs and Kim Churchill, steadily establishing herself as one of Australia’s most compelling emerging folk-pop artists.
Away from the studio, Coggan has also become an outspoken advocate for the creative process itself, recently reflecting on the rise of AI-generated content and arguing that the act of making music remains the most meaningful part of being an artist. That commitment to authenticity runs throughout ‘Fault Line’, a song that feels deliberately personal in both its lyrics and performance.
Coggan will take the new single on the road next month, performing with her full band in Melbourne, Wollongong and Sydney, where audiences will also hear a selection of unreleased material for the first time.
