PREMIERE: Canadian trio Captain Wildchild get weird with it on inventive new song ‘Fantasy’

You’re probably aware but there’s a bunch of excellent punk bands coming out of Canada. You got PUP, Single Mothers and the Dirty Nil up there, ffs. Clearly there’s more than enough riffs to go around.

The latter hail from Hamilton, Ontario – as do Captain Wildchild, so they’re in good company. They put out an EP called Killer Bees in late 2020, and if that was a foot in the door then their debut album Infinite Pleasure is going to blow said door clean off.

Instantly impactful guitar hook? Check. Impassioned vocals that border on throat-shredding? Yup. Green-screen clip featuring chaotic video game footage and invisible instruments? Oh, go on then. ‘Fantasy’ is the auditory equivalent of a triple espresso, so if you need something to get you going this morning then look no further. The album’s out Saturday August 20th and there’s plenty more where this came from.
