We are very honoured to premiere on Backseat Mafia the new single ‘Bored’ from Eora/Sydney-based alternative-pop artist Darcy Lane. This is a heavenly pop delight which assuages the temporal gloom we face these days with a silky soft and haunting refrain. It contrasts the sweetest pop delivery with an acerbic theme that acutely observes the ephemeral nature of society today, personalised as a message to an inconstant lover. An ethereal melancholic tone infuses Lane’s deliciously cool and velvet vocals.

Lane says of the track:

This song is really about all the feelings that come with rejection. I feel like we live in a world where there is always the next best thing and that can be really challenging at times. It’s easy to be tempted by things that are shiny and new but that doesn’t always mean it is better. ‘Bored’ was intended to ultimately call out someone that ran away just in case there was someone better out there. I often wonder if they have found it yet.

A sticky percussion supports dappling synths and layers of ghostly harmonies over muscular vocals: this is truly an enveloping and embracing track imbued with yearning and a sense of loss:

‘Bored’ is out everywhere tomorrow (Friday, 12 August 2022). You can catch Lane live launching the single in Sydney on Friday, 26 August 2022 at the Beach Road Hotel, Bondi. ‘Bored’ is taken from Darcy Lane’s upcoming debut EP ‘Heartquakes’, which is set for release on Friday, 2 September 2022.
